Doctor Lima is both a ground-breaking Portuguese neuropathologist and one of the foremost experts in Repair Stem Cell treatments. Eschewing traditional bone marrow stem cells as a limited source for the neurological stem cells required treating injured spinal cords; he discovered that the best RSC outside the brain resides in the nose.
While nerve cells in the nose are lost due to illness or pollution; the sense of smell is not, as these cells are continually replaced throughout life and provide an excellent source for neurological stem cell treatments. Using olfactory stem cells harvested from the patients' own nose; Dr. Lima transplants the cells at the spinal cord break utilizing a successful OMA transplant surgical procedure he also developed.
Dr. Lima is the only man in the world whose treatments have succeeded at the nuerological redevelopment required to allow paraplegics to rise from their wheelchairs and walk.
His amazing work was highlighted on the PBS special "Miracle Cell" in April, 2004. He is the Senior Consultant in Neuropathology at the Hospital Egas Moniz in Portugal.
He has been the Coordinator of the project sponsored by the Administration of the Hospital de Egas Moniz-Lisboa "Olfactory Mucosa Autografts in Human SCI" since 2001.
